White Pine Bath & Brew

Sustainability & Ethics

Sourcing Beer

White Pine Bath & Brew sources beer exclusively from breweries in Maine. We not only purchase beer from these breweries but also collect brewery excess. Breweries commonly produce short-fills and overstock beer that has passed its freshest point. By purchasing and/or repurposing this beer, we support other local business and help them reduce waste - all with no negative impact on the quality of our soap.

Ingredients & Formulation

We opt for vegan beer and plant-based oils and wax over animal byproducts when formulating our skincare. This means that all of our products are vegan.

Although palm oil is a common ingredient in modern skincare, the unsustainable harvesting of palm oil has contributed to deforestation. We choose to avoid it completely in our products.

Our soap recipes are all original and unique to White Pine Bath & Brew. We do not use the same base soap recipe for all our bar soaps. Skincare is not a one-size-fits-all, so our diverse recipes reflect this.

The fragrance and essential oil use in our recipes is carefully formulated to comply with the recommended safe use guidelines of the International Fragrance Association which bans, restricts, or sets purity criteria for the use of certain fragrance ingredients, based on scientific evidence.

Unlike most companies that use fragrance and essential oil in their products, White Pine Bath & Brew lists any and all medical recommendations/warnings that our fragrance suppliers pass on to us. These recommendations/warnings are usually associated with a specific essential oil in the recipe. If applicable, they can easily be found on our online description of each product as well as the physical label of each product.

White Pine Bath & Brew does not test products on animals, but rather, the owner's friends and family members.

Rebatching

"Rebatching" refers to the process of grating soap to allow for rehydration and reformation. It is a tedious but valuable process that allows us to make use of leftover soap scraps from successful batches. It also allows us to adjust batches that are not up to our standards. Rebatching is a great way to recycle production scraps and reduce waste.

Ethical Apparel

White Pine Bath & Brew proudly partners with Creation Lab, LLP to create our apparel. We choose this local print shop in Windham, Maine because of their ethical and sustainable practices and supplies, safe disposal methods, and efforts to minimize waste. The T-Shirts produced are WRAP certified (sweatshop free) Bella + Canvas tees and are 100% airlume combed and ringspun cotton. The design is printed in water-based ink which is PVC and Phthalate free.

Packaging & Shipping

When designing packaging and shipping products, we use paper, glass, or metal packaging over plastic when possible. We do not shrink wrap soap, box our beard oil bottles, or ship using plastic mailers. Shipments come in cardboard boxes filled with paper-based padding, not polystyrene foam. We use reinforced kraft paper packaging tape instead of plastic tape for easier recycling. We have switched from ink-printed shipping labels to compostable, direct-thermal shipping labels made from 100% recycled paper with a non-toxic adhesive.
